Long rainy weekend

I worked a bit extra on Friday to try to catch up on my e-mails and I did manage to get through about 100 so left at 8 pm with 279 in one mail box and about 40 in the other. Only 300+ to go. No problem...especially if I just delete them all & say 'FU' and not show up next week.

Which of course I won't do. However appealing.

I technically have my first customer, my friend's 2 dogs in a week and a half. I'm not charging them fully because I agreed to do it as a friend, but I will get some money, and I'm hoping to get some pictures  and a testimonial about how awesome I am for my website. We had a quick walk around the park yesterday and I have to help one of the dogs up into the SVU (arthritis) and I couldn't do it! Luckily they both forgave me. We're going to go again Monday morning so I'll have another shot at it. One of the biggest perks is their T.V. it's huge and beautiful and they have a crapload of channels. A dream come true. Maybe I'll be 'sick' all week and stay there and watch T.V. & hang out with the dogs. It would be awesome.

Today is another stamp collecting day for the Tourism challenge. I actually have a friend going with me which will be nice. However they did not want to go to Capilano or Grouse so we'll just stick to the city stuff I guess. I need 4 more attractions + the Zoo to complete the minimum so if I can get 3 today for sure I'll be in a good position for next weekend. Then I'm done!

Progress

So don't tell my Mom BUT...I now have an officially registered business name, and reserved the domain name, AND I am currently awaiting a certification program through petsit.com. Yeah! And, OMG! ACK!

On a more immediate front I now also have 7 stamps out of 12 for my Tourism Challenge card. Last weekend I went to the HR MacMillan Space Centre, the Vancouver Museum, and the Vancouver Maritime Museum. Of course I didn't get out of the house till after lunch so I was in a bit of a time crunch. However, it was still really interesting and I would definitely take the kids (well, with parental assistance) to the space centre. The question was about what kind of food the astronauts eat - which was kind of gross really, but cool if you know what I mean. I certainly would not want to be in space for long if I had to eat like that. The Museum had a new exhibit on Bhangra music and the change over time. It was AWESOME!!! There were videos, the musical instruments, ipods to listen to with the music featuring the hot spots in Vancouver, the UK, etc. which was great. There was even a room where you could watch or participate in a dance lesson. It's open till the fall so I will definitely go back. The Maritime Museum was nice to visit again - I had to find a female pirate name & the name of the vessel featured in their exhibit about Roald Amundsen's voyage into the Northwest Passage which was really interesting by the by. Also, Pirates!

Yesterday I went to the Museum of Anthropology, the new Beatty Biodiversity Museum and the UBC Botanical Garden. I found a whole new area at the MOA that I didn't even knew existed. The Biodiversity museum was really great. They really have an amazing collection of specimens and I can't wait to go back to have another look. It was raining so the Botanical Garden was a really quick stop - the answer was a Douglas Fir as an FYI. I wanted to do their Canopy walk but because of the weather I scrapped that. Hopefully sometime in the summer I'll get there again and I can do it then.

2 more Sundays so if I can get 3 next weekend, plus the Zoo, I only need 1 more to get the minimum so I feel like I'm on track. I'm hoping next weekend will be Maplewood Farms, Capilano Suspension Bridge, and Grouse maybe. I guess we'll see. The weather's been against me lately.

Some kind of crazy miracle

My landlords got a notification from the city that their water consumption has quadrupled so they may actually fix the toilet & bathtub. I say 'may' because it has not happened yet & it's been 6 months since I told them about the tub so there is some intense skepticism on my part. However, I appreciate the intention and it would be AWESOME if it actually happened. I can't even imagine what joy it would be to have a nice pleasant bathroom. I probably shouldn't get my hopes up.

Taxes and stuff

So, I procrastinated like the maniac that I am but I finally got my taxes done and I am still getting a bit back. Yay! It's such a relief. One of the things I puttered around with was a business name. What do you think of "Furry or not" petsitting or petcare? It's available as a business name & as a domain name. I wanted something to indicate a variety of pets - not just dogs. Other than that  I am trying to get motivated to hit one or two tourism challenge spots today but I really just want to relax. So, we'll see how that goes. The Sewell's Marina tour was awesome last weekend, but I'll probably do something local today - maybe Fort Langley or the long house in Mission. I have to get at least 12 attractions to get the pass but I only have till the end of May so I must be diligent!
